Press Release

Coach K Final Season

DURHAM, N.C., September 20, 2021 – The AAA Four Diamond Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club and the JB Duke Hotel, both located on the campus of Duke University, are accepting reservations for stays now through March 2022 in anticipation of Duke’s 2021-22 collegiate winter sports season. Both properties are favorite destinations among Duke students, staff, alumni and regional travelers seeking unparalleled Southern hospitality, incredible pre- and post-game cuisine and luxury accommodations in the heart of campus.

The highly anticipated Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) men’s and women’s basketball schedules were released last week and all three Duke University-owned properties, including The Lodge at Duke Medical Center, anticipate a flurry of activity following the announcement that Mike Krzyzewski, the winningest coach in Division I men's basketball history, is retiring after the 2021-22 season. Duke Associate Head Coach Jon Scheyer, who played for Krzyzewski from 2006 to 2010, will be Krzyzewski's successor.

“Coach K is retiring after a historic career, and we are all feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation as we prepare for the start of basketball season this year,” said Randy Kolls, Area General Manager and Partner for the trio of properties owned by Duke University. “Most fans and alumni haven’t been inside Cameron Indoor Stadium for nearly two years, making this chapter in college basketball history even more meaningful. We look forward to welcoming Duke fans from across the country to the heart of campus for an unforgettable homecoming.”

With basketball tickets in short supply this season, many Blue Devil fans will join in the excitement on campus by catching a game at the Inn’s lively Bull Durham Bar.

The Duke Football Radio Show with Head Coach David Cutcliffe and co-host Art Chase has also returned to the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club. Every Tuesday through the end of the football season, fans are invited to enjoy a special tailgate dinner in the Vista Restaurant at 6 p.m. before the start of the live broadcast at 7 p.m. A production of the Blue Devil Sports Network from LEARFIELD, the Duke Football Radio Show is broadcast locally on The Fan 99.9 FM and 620 The Ticket. Guests can call (919) 490-0999 to make a reservation.

In addition to winter athletic events, the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club, JB Duke Hotel and The Lodge at Duke Medical Center will welcome guests for a variety of Duke events and celebrations over the fall season, including the 2020 Commencement Ceremony on Sept. 26 and Duke Family Weekend from Oct. 15 –17.

All three Duke University-owned properties are following the latest public health guidelines established by Duke University, including requiring that all guests wear a face covering while indoors and urging the community to get vaccinated to protect themselves and their loved ones from serious illness related to COVID-19.
