The JB Duke Hotel is the contemporary hotel located on the campus of Duke University, conveniently near both the university’s athletic and academic facilities. Only 20 minutes from Raleigh-Durham International Airport and 10 minutes from Research Triangle Park, the JB Duke Hotel features 198 guestrooms, 20,850 square feet of meeting and event space and is home to a full-service restaurant and two bars, all connected by a stately two-story glass corridor.
Inspired by the materials and colors of North Carolina’s natural surroundings combined with Duke University’s global sophistication in the world of business and academia, the sleek JB Duke Hotel plays host to Fuqua School of Business students and guests as well as other visitors and travelers to Duke and Durham. Light-filled spaces abound throughout the hotel, offering views of the surrounding Duke Forest, landscaped courtyards, terraces and plazas, connecting guests with the outdoors. Local décor and furnishings invoke a sense of craftsmanship important to the history and community of North Carolina.
The JB Duke Hotel is owned by Duke University and is managed by JBD Hospitality, LLC of Durham, North Carolina.
First built in 1989, the original facility served Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business for dining and accommodations needs for the Executive MBA students and non-degree program guests. The property was completely renovated in 2016, including an expansion of an additional 85 guest rooms and a 5,400 square foot ballroom, as well as additional meeting spaces.
The namesake of the hotel is James Buchanan “J.B.” Duke, the son of Washington Duke for whom the university was named and one of the most successful industrialists of the 20th century. In 1924, J.B. Duke established The Duke Endowment and transformed Durham’s Trinity College into Duke University, today one of the world’s leading institutions of higher education and health.
JB Duke Hotel will continue the lineage of unparalleled service, gracious staff and attention to detail set by “father” property, Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club, but in unique, contemporary style.
